The 65-meter-high FTV Digital Media Headquarters has 14 above-ground stories and two basement levels. The main volume is on the southeast side of the site, with a large plaza set along Xinyi Road for events, also serving as a recreational area for nearby residents. With walkways in the 21-meter-wide greenbelt on the west side and a four-meter-wide open space strip on the north side, it well-connects to the district’s overall greenbelt and pedestrian system.
The void created by the arch frame and the layering of buildings enhance the dramatic tension of the space. In configuration, the TV studios are located at a L-shaped volume passing through the midst of the site, while the main office building is tall and compact, creating bright interior working space. The 18-meter-high studios and a transparent volume hosting the ancillary facilities are separated by the visiting corridor, contributing to the layered effect of the complex. Arched over the buildings is a goalpost-shaped structure with an illuminated cube of news studio suspended in the middle of the void, imitating a TV camera view finder, its placement resembling FTV’s eye-shaped logo, symbolizing the transmission of a clear and forward-looking perspective to the world.
