In line with the objective to establish a museum paying tribute to the Japanese mouth and foot painter, Mr. Hoshino Tomihiro, the design proposal focuses on creating an abstract space that alludes to the artist’s determination while accentuating his poetry and artwork inspired by nature.

Set above a quiet pond, a gentle sloping ritualistic pathway leads to the entrance of the art museum. The natural light seeps through the thin, cross-shaped openings cut out from the wooden box exterior shell, and shines on the glass walkways of each level. These openings are kept to a minimum to protect the artwork from direct sun light. The glass volume and the wooden box appear to be floating above the crystalline pond that reflects the ever-changing nature – the source of artist’s inspiration – straight into the museum space, as well as into the heart and soul of its visitors.
