This project is located on a gentle wooded slope. The school focuses on harmony with nature and ecologically sustainable growth; therefore, preserving the original site terrain is of utmost criteria. The buildings grow out from the earth, in full harmony with nature. The buildings are mostly low-rise structures with minimal excavation needed. The design of a total of 1590 exterior and interior steps allows access to different elevations on the hillside while eliminating any visible retaining walls. Three main buildings are positioned according to site conditions: the Academic/Administration Building, the Chan House, and the Sports Complex. Platforms, corridors and bridges link all the spaces together, providing free access, expanding the activity areas, and highlighting the dramatic qualities of the adjoined spaces. The overall data-style is imbued with a sense of age, so upon completion the buildings show no unexpected novel elements, and will retain its features even after many decades.

The Academic/Administration Building exhibits its timelessness with architectural concrete finishes, and its rooftop greenery helps make it one with nature. The long stairway follows the contours is the primary focus for campus life. With a predominant rainy weather, many corridors, balconies and other semi-outdoor spaces are provided for student’s activities. They also enhance visual vistas and create many both interesting framing views.

The Chan House is a student dormitory. The buildings are scattered on the mountainside, configured so that each building’s rooftop is at a different level, increasing the usability of the roof platforms. Pebbledash façades create a simple, clean data-style, and the atrium gardens contain pools that attract birds, and acts as a physical separation between men’s and women’s quarters.

The Sports Complex is built with architectural concrete finishes, composed of one square and one linear volumes. The square volume has a 7-meter high ceiling, suitable for any sports activity venue. The linear volume is made up of irregular convex and concave box-like spaces for an intriguing visual effect. Skylights let in sunlight for interesting light and shade, and the design takes advantage of the sloping terrain of the valley to channel fresh air into the interior spaces. The natural lighting and ventilation make it an excellent place for activities and contemplation.
